3D character animation for a Bored Ape comedy performance

The Problem
Recreate a specific Bored Ape as a fully animated 3D character and produce a complete virtual comedy performance — preserving the recognisable NFT traits while giving the character enough range to carry a sustained comedic set.
The Approach
I rebuilt the Ape in 3D, matching proportions, clothing and defining traits while adapting the artwork for animation, then built production-ready topology, a full-body rig and an expressive facial shape-key system. Rokoko body and facial capture provided the performance foundation, retargeted and hand-refined to sharpen gesture clarity, facial nuance and comedic timing against the recorded routine. A stylised comedy-club environment — stage lighting, props, audience silhouettes — was designed to support the performance without competing with it, and the final pass focused on cleaning mocap, adding secondary motion and strengthening reactions around punchlines.
Outcome
A polished narrative film demonstrating an end-to-end character-animation pipeline, from source artwork and performance capture through to finished comedy timing.
